Cooperation in a Fragmented World.”
– World Economic Forum Annual Meeting 2023

What a way to kick off 2023! As I reflect on the theme of the recently concluded World Economic Forum Annual Meeting, under the banner “Cooperation in a Fragmented World”, I wanted to share some of my key highlights from #Davos2023.

The World Economic Forum 2023 Agenda.

The World Economic Forum annual meeting convened leaders from government, business, and civil society to address the state of the world and discuss priorities for the year ahead:

  • Build resilience in leadership, people, and structures while withstanding the uncertainties of the present times.
  • Navigate the energy transition to net Zero while building sustainable economies and governments
  • Position for a competitive advantage through inclusion, diversity and equity.
  • Redefine global interdependence through diversification.
  • Enhancing public-private collaboration in maximizing space economy.

The world today is at a critical inflection point. The sheer number of ongoing crises calls for bold collective action.”

Highlights from Davos 2023.

Innovation, Technology and Investments: Inspiring and thought provoking conversations with Robert Frederick Smith, Founder of Vista Equity Partners and David Spreng, Founder of Runway Growth Capital on building and scaling investment platforms, the power of focus and the intersect of purpose, passion and performance. As I build and scale my own global investment platforms, I take encouragement and inspiration from those who have blazed trails ahead, laying the foundations for us to build upon.

Healthcare: Participating in the Illumina Private Roundtable discussion on “The Need for Diversity in Population Genomics”, where I shared perspectives from the continent, and advocated for a multi-stakeholder approach. I also stressed the importance of diversity and equity in the advancement of genomics research and precision medicine, to ensure better better health outcomes for all.

Davos…By nature, it is a modest resort by the city of Zurich, Switzerland. In the books of impact, it has become a home to the largest gathering of global decision makers all year.”

Africa Rising: Rubbing minds with co-conspirators at the Africa House, which put the Africa agenda on the Davos map, and created a space for progressive and impactful dialogue. I appreciated the opportunity to share some of the work I have been doing in healthcare on the continent on the back of the “Health is Wealth” panel Co-Chaired by Debra Fraser-Howze, Founder of Choose Healthy Life, Dr Reed Tuckson, MD, and U.S. Congressman Gregory Meeks, D-NY.

Equity, Inclusion & Diversity: Powerful conversations with industry experts, global leaders, and luminaries at The Female Quotient Equality lounge, in our collective fight to close the gender equality gaps that persist. I especially enjoyed the sessions curated by Dr Amino Emuwa and the 100 Davos Women, discussing the key issues in achieving gender equality in leadership, and how to support & uplift women in positions of leadership.

Looking Ahead.

As I look forward to the year ahead, I reflect on the importance of community. I joined the World Economic Forum Global Shaper community at the start of my investing career, and over the years I am blessed to have forged deep relationships and built extensive communities such that I have a home wherever my passions and pursuits take me.

Thank you to all who made my first Davos a memorable and inspiring one. I look forward to working more closely with the World Economic Forum and my tribe in building an equitable, inclusive, and sustainable world.
